The World Government Summit 2024 was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates recently. Also, the delegation of Turkmenistan participated in the Summit. During the World Government Summit (WGS 2024) in Dubai, Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, announced a number of the country’s initiatives aimed at addressing global transport and energy challenges.
The proposed initiatives include:
- Global Atlas of Sustainable Transport Connectivity: This initiative aims to create a comprehensive database of transport infrastructure, routes, and services to facilitate efficient and sustainable transportation.
- Alliance for Cooperation in the Field of Global Energy Security and Sustainable Development: This alliance seeks to promote collaboration among governments, energy companies, and financial institutions to ensure reliable and sustainable energy supplies for all.
- Global Framework for the Transition to a Circular Economy: This framework aims to promote resource efficiency, waste reduction, and recycling to minimize environmental impact and foster sustainable development.
These initiatives are designed to align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set forth by the United Nations, particularly SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
Minister Meredov emphasized Turkmenistan’s commitment to actively contributing to global efforts towards sustainable development. He highlighted the country’s successful track record in promoting sustainable transport. He noted that six UN General Assembly resolutions on the topic have been adopted at Turkmenistan’s initiative over the past decade.
“Turkmenistan, as a responsible member of the international community, clearly formulates and implements its approaches and actions, outlining priorities according to which our country’s contribution is intended to facilitate the speedy achievement of universal goals,” stated Minister Meredov.
The proposed initiatives were met with positive responses from participants at the WGS 2024, who acknowledged Turkmenistan’s leadership in promoting sustainable development. These initiatives are expected to contribute significantly to global efforts in addressing transport and energy challenges and achieving the SDGs.
